Improvised Music: B.U.G.S

Director: Xie Yu
Actors: Xie Xin Dance Theatre

This project delves into the intersection of two intriguing tales: Metamorphosis by Kafka and "The Cricket" (促织) from Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio (聊斋志异), both centered on characters transformed into insects.

For this performance, I improvised live music to accompany the choreography, creating a spontaneous and organic dialogue between sound and movement. Using instruments like the flute, piccolo, and the playful Otamatone, I wove a soundscape that was both dynamic and unpredictable, adding layers of emotion and nuance to the performance.

The magic of this piece lies in its ephemeral nature—every performance unfolds uniquely, shaped by the live interplay of music, dance, and theatre.

Dancing Square: A Celebration of Movement

Dancing Square is a project that reimagines dance as a universal language, accessible to everyone. Rooted in public spaces, it celebrates the power of movement to connect individuals, dissolve barriers, and foster a sense of community. This year, as part of the 2024 “Sowing Community” Public Art Season, Dancing Square transformed Shunde’s Beijiao ALSO Outdoor Square into a vibrant, temporary disco, blending tradition with spontaneous expression.

Directed by Ergao, known for his work on dance’s public accessibility, the event celebrated spontaneity and connection.
