Music as a bridge for connection, exploration, and transformation

Yujing
is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound artist whose work spans concert music, film, dance, theatre, games, and mixed media. Drawing from classical training and global folk traditions, she creates immersive sound worlds that blend acoustic textures, electronic elements, and improvisation. In addition to composing, she is an active performer and arranger, collaborating with choreographers, filmmakers, pop artists, and interdisciplinary creators.

She holds a Bachelor of Music in classical flute performance from McGill University, where she studied under Timothy Hutchins, principal flutist of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She continued her studies in Amsterdam with Kersten McCall, principal flutist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Later, in New York City, she deepened her practice in contemporary music and extended techniques under the mentorship of pioneering flutist Robert Dick. Following these academic studies, Yujing traveled across Asia to immerse herself in folk music traditions—exploring the cultural roots, instruments, and oral practices that continue to shape her voice as a musician.

As a performer, Yujing works across a wide range of formats, from solo and chamber settings to orchestral ensembles and improvisation-based collaborations. Her instrumental palette includes the flute, ethnic wind instruments, jaw harp, handpan, and keyboard. She has performed internationally at festivals and venues across the Netherlands, China, Canada, the U.S., Italy, Switzerland, and India. She has trained in Mongolian throat singing and explored physical theatre and directing in Italy—experiences that inform her exploratory and embodied approach to sound.

For Yujing, music lives in the unsaid—it lingers between silence and presence, carrying memory, texture, and the subtle shifts of human experience. She composes not just to express, but to listen for what’s beneath the surface.
